The Brandywine tomato is a big (approx 10-15cm across) tomato with a pinkish red skin. They can take up to 100 days to mature, so if you’re growing these in Tasmania, it’s ideal to start them early in the season or mature them in a greenhouse for maximum yield. It’s a “potato-leaf” style of vine (broader leaves) which grows prolifically so staking or caging is a must. You don’t get a LOT of fruit off each plant (maybe 10-15) but their size and amazing tangy flavour more than makes up for it. Be sure to keep the fruit off the ground (I often remove the lower branches once the plant has matured anyway) Considered one of the best flavoured tomatoes worldwide.
